Have to agree with your sentiments about getting the bike that suits your purpose.However,I haven't had a problem with longevity of the Savage.Mine has done about 145,000 Kms,has lasted 15 years with only normal replacement of tyres,etc.Only major problem has been getting a rear sprocket lately, (one is on the way), a situation caused by the bike only selling in small numbers in Oz.As a commuter bike for the last 10 years it's been ultra reliable,never let me down,
